Team, not car — and positions, not seconds
Every one of a team’s cars’ qualifying finishes, averaged together and blended over the last five races. This is called “Team Performance,” not “Car Performance”: even under the spec Next Gen chassis, Cup Series engines come from four separate suppliers and setup still varies car to car, so what’s being measured is organizational qualifying strength, not one fixed car design.
NASCAR’s qualifying data doesn’t reliably carry comparable lap times or speeds across every session, so this ranks teams by average grid position rather than inventing a seconds gap the data doesn’t support. “Avg P4.2” means this team’s cars start P4 on average — no fabricated precision.

Where these numbers come from
Qualifying classifications from the last five points races, scraped from official NASCAR results. Each team’s figure is every one of its cars’ qualifying positions that weekend, averaged together across the window so one rain-shortened session doesn’t swing the ranking.
