What makes it different
- The exit wall at the final chicane is the Wall of Champions - it caught Damon Hill, Michael Schumacher and Jacques Villeneuve, all world champions, in the same 1999 race.
- Low-grip, low-abrasion surface on an island circuit that sits unused most of the year: track evolution across a weekend here is among the largest in F1.
- The island the track sits on didn't exist until the 1960s - Île Notre-Dame was built from 15 million tonnes of rock excavated for Montreal's Metro, in time for Expo 67 in 1967.

How much the order changes
up or down from the grid slot, on average — about the calendar average
"Cars that don't finish" and "How much the order changes" both cover the 10 Grands Prix run here since 2015. Movement is the distance between a car’s grid slot and its finish, in either direction — not a count of overtakes, since a car retiring ahead of a driver moves that driver up too.

Historic moments
2019 · Vettel wins on track and loses in the stewards’ room
Sebastian Vettel crossed the line 1.3 seconds clear of Lewis Hamilton, but a five-second penalty for running across the grass at Turn 3 and squeezing Hamilton towards the wall on the way back handed the win to Mercedes. Vettel refused to play along afterwards, moving the number-one board from Hamilton’s car to his own empty parking spot.
2011 · The longest race in F1 history
Torrential rain delayed the race by over two hours and produced a record six safety car periods. Jenson Button fell to last place, fought back through the field, and passed race leader Sebastian Vettel exiting the final corner of the final lap to win a race that took more than four hours to complete.
1999 · The Wall of Champions
Turn 14's exit wall was just a wall until 1999, when Damon Hill, Michael Schumacher and Jacques Villeneuve - three World Champions - all speared into it during the same Grand Prix. It's been the Wall of Champions ever since.
