F1 2026 Overtakes - On-Track Passes by Driver

Nico Hülkenberg leads 2026 with 72 on-track passes across 18 races. Bahrain Grand Prix in Malaysia was the most action-packed round, with 178 passes.

These are lower bounds, not a broadcast count

Counted from official lap-by-lap position data: driver A behind driver B at the end of one lap, ahead at the end of the next. That excludes the opening lap, any lap either car is in its pit cycle (strategy, not a pass), and retirements. Because positions are only recorded once per lap, a pass and a re-pass inside the same lap cancel out and are invisible here — these numbers under-count, they never over-count.

Where these numbers come from

Every lap of every classified session this season, taken from official timing. A pass counts when one driver’s recorded position moves ahead of another’s between consecutive laps, with the opening lap and either car’s pit cycle excluded, as set out at the top of this page.

Positions are recorded once per lap, so this is a lower bound on true overtaking activity, not an exact broadcast count.
