- No formal announcement has been made about his position for the upcoming season.
Oliver Bearman has made clear his intention to remain with Haas for the 2027 Formula 1 season, despite ongoing delays in finalizing his contract. The British driver, currently in his second full year with the American team, emphasized that continuing with Haas is his definite goal, though some contractual details are still being worked out.
Bearman addressed the uncertainty ahead of the Mexico City Grand Prix, stating, “It’s very clear I want to continue with Haas and that’s definitely my goal. There are a few things in the background that we’re working on, but it’s been very clear that continuing with Haas will be my target and we’re just finalizing a few things on that front.” He acknowledged the delay in announcing his future has been frustrating, adding, “If it was up to me, it would have already been announced a long time ago. But there are a few bigger-picture things that we’re working on.”
Haas team principal Ayao Komatsu echoed Bearman’s sentiments, confirming the team’s desire to keep the 21-year-old on board. Komatsu described their working relationship as strong and mutually beneficial, saying, “We work really well together, push each other, we really enjoy working together. And he brings a lot to the team. We are growing together.” He attributed the hold-up solely to contractual complexities, telling Sky Sports F1, “It’s all on the contractual side. Honestly, I don’t see any issues. We will get it done, for sure.”
Komatsu also dismissed rumors circulating about Bearman demanding an exorbitant €6 million salary, calling such reports “absolute nonsense.” He expressed frustration over fabricated stories, citing previous false claims about internal team disputes. “I have no idea where that came from,” Komatsu said regarding the salary figure, noting it first appeared on social media without basis.
The Haas lineup for 2027 is partially confirmed with rookie Rafael Camara set to join the team, replacing Esteban Ocon who will leave at the end of this season. Bearman, a Ferrari academy driver, has accumulated 44 starts with Haas since his debut in 2024 and currently sits 13th in the drivers’ standings with 23 points this year. Despite Haas’s performance struggles, Bearman has outpaced his more experienced teammate Ocon in the championship.
While Ferrari’s influence on Bearman’s placement remains active behind the scenes, the finalization of his contract with Haas appears imminent. Both driver and team express confidence that an agreement will be reached soon, clearing the way for Bearman to continue developing with Haas into the next season.
